Asafoetida | a pinch |
Mustard seeds | 1tsp |
Fennel seeds(sombhu) | 1/2tsp |
Curry leaves | 1sprig |

Oil | 3tbs |
Salt | to taste |
Method
Boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker for 1-2 whistles or cook it in the microwave oven and cut it into bite sized pieces.Chop the onion and tomato into a fine pieces.Place a wide mouthed pan on the stove and 2 tbs of oil.Once the oil is hot season it with sombu ,mustard seeds,asfoetida and curry leaves.Add in the chopped onions and saute till it becomes transparent then ginger&garlic paste and follows the tomatoes.
Now add in all the powders and give it a stir and a 1/2 cup of water and green peas.Let it boil till the raw smell goes off.Now add in green peas and cook it for 2-3 mins.Then add the cut potatoes to it and mix it gently without breaking the potato pieces and cook it for 3-4 mins.
At this point add the remaining 1tbs of oil and reduce the flame to medium and cook it for 5 mins.Stir the curry in between two times to avoid burning.Garnish it with coriander leaves.
Enjoy this curry with sambhar rice or any of you choice.
- Dried peas can be used for this recipe(needs to be soaked and cooked).
- Adding whole garam masala gives a nice flavor.
- Coconut paste(2tsp) can be used for an extra taste .
