Vazhaipoo(cleaned,cut and chopped) | 2cups |
Coconut(grated) | 1cup |
Roasted bengal gram dhal(Pottukadalai) | 1/2cup |
Shallots | 5-6nos. |
Garlic | 3-4cloves |
Ginger | 1 inch piece |
Curry leaves | 2 sprigs |
Coriander leaves(chopped finely) | 1tsp |
Red chilly | 5-6 |
Fennel seeds(sombhu) | 1tsp |
Oil | for frying |
Salt | to taste |
Method
Take out the petals, clean,chop and put them in the buttermilk to avoid blackening.Steam cook the chopped vazhaipoo and squeeze out the excess water.Put coconut,half of the pottukadalai, onions,red chillies,ginger,garlic,fennel,curry leaves,vazhipoo and salt in mixie jar and powder it without adding water.
Once the mixture becomes coarse, sprinkle some water and grind it to a smooth paste.If the mixture is not grinding to a paste add little more water and grind it.Transfer it to a plate now, powder the remaining half of the pottukadalai to the batter.Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix it well.
Now make small balls out of the batter and keep it ready.Fry the balls in the oil in a medium flame.
Take out from the oil and drain it in a paper towel.
Enjoy it hot with a cup of tea.
- If the batter becomes watery add little more pottukadalai powder or besan.
- Green chillies or red chilly powder can be used.
- Oil should be in a medium flame.

i tried it today... very tasty... i usually do vadai with vazhaipoo using dals... but this is a different dish to me and its yummy also... thank u....
